Thank you to Bowling Green State University Library for inspiring and sharing your content for this guide.
Most browsers have a setting where it does not save any information about you. It is often called Private Mode.
How to use Private mode in:
If the resource is accessible in private mode, it likely means that you need to clear your cache and cookies.
It's always a good idea to have more than one browser on your computer, because different resources work differently in different browsers, and login errors can get saved in your cache even if they are just temporary. Many login errors are resolved by trying a different browser. If you can't use a different browser, try clearing your cache and search history.
Please note Internet Explorer has been retired by Microsoft and is not recommended for use.
In most browsers on PC and Mac, you can perform a simple action to force a hard refresh. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and click on the reload icon on your browser’s toolbar.

If you are off campus, you should be prompted to log in to libproxy before you can access an article or ebook.
You will then
1) Be prompted to login to your StFX Email Address, or
2) Be taken directly to the e-resource you requested
If you get an error message, or you are still unable to access the resource:
1) Do you have another Microsoft account? E.g. for work or personal use? If so, log out of that account first. Then login to your StFX email account at https://office365.stfx.ca
There is a known issue which can happen with the Zotero Connector and the library's proxy system, which is used to authenticate StFX users accessing library resources from off-campus.
When searching, you may see a yellow banner appear at the top of your browser page, as shown in this example:
If you accept the new settings, the change may interfere with your ability to access some of the library databases. Do not click Accept; please close the banner and make the following change to your Connector settings.
On your browser page, right click on the Connector icon, then choose Manage Extension. From there, choose Extension Options, and then Proxies. Disable the option "Enable Proxy Redirection" by unchecking it.
To access StFX Library subscriptions (eg. full text of a journal article, ebook, database) off campus, the link has to be proxied. A link containing a proxy or "libproxy" will prompt the person to log in, thus authenticating access to that resource for free through the library.
Note for instructors: You should always use a proxy link when linking to library materials on Moodle, syllabus, etc.
To proxy any link, simply add the blue text below to the beginning of a url:
https://libproxy.stfx.ca/login?url=
For example:
Unproxied link to an article via JSTOR: http://www.jstor.org/stable/40651623
(this link will not work off campus)
Proxied link to JSTOR:
https://libproxy.stfx.ca/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/40651623
(this link will work off campus)

1) Copy and paste the article URL to which you want to link into the search box below.
2) Click the blue box ' Get Proxy URL'
3) Copy the new URL generated by the box
For example, off campus this link will not allow access to the full article: https://doi.org/10.1097/ANS.0b013e31824fe6ca
But after the proxy is prepended: https://libproxy.stfx.ca/login?url=https://doi.org/10.1097/ANS.0b013e31824fe6ca
The new link will redirect to a login page, prompting users to log in with StFX credentials.
